Empowering Girls
Hearty Heroine Tales for 5-8 year old girls
(Parents invited too!)

Friday, October 6th
9:30 – 11:30
Centerville Library

Fairytales are well supplied with male heroes, many who perform difficult tasks to either marry a princess or to save her.  However, in this two hour exploration, the focus will be on the heroine in fairy tales.  Using expressive arts and enactment, the qualities of bravery, strength, skill, wit, and heart, of the heroine, will be embodied by the students immersing into the stories themselves. Toward the end of the gathering, the students will give a brief ‘demo’ performance.

An added ‘flavor’ will be the sharing of stories from different cultures and countries.  Girl power is truly international and universal!  A ‘refreshment enrichment’ will further highlight special tastes from each of the cultures and countries represented, as we each sit, sip, and enjoy one another as friends, partaking in an ancient Greek tradition, called a “Symposium.”

This experiential event is facilitated by Barbara E. Johnson, Expressive Arts Therapist, who is also interning in Transpersonal Drama Therapy for Cape Cod Child Development in Hyannis.

Sponsored by Cape Cod Child Development and the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) Grant of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.  This event is free but registration is required.  Please register by contacting the Centerville Library at 508-790-6218 (ext. 105, 106).
